Long Term Vision

Long Term Vision

The Gambia’s first long-term development plan (Vision 2020) was formulated in 1996. This 25-year plan was intended to guide the Gambia’s Socio-economic development for the period 1996 – 2020. Vision 2020 seeks to transform The Gambia into a dynamic middle-income country; socially and economically over a 25-year period through six major activity areas relating to Agriculture, Industry, Trade, Tourism, Financial Services and Human Resource Development.

With the ending of Vision 2020, the Government of The Gambia is working on developing another long-term development plan. The new long-term development plan (Vision) will take a cue from the implementation of the Vision 2020, the progress registered, and challenges encountered. The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs will coordinate the formulation of this new long-term development plan (Vision 2050) through a highly participatory and inclusive process involving Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), private sector, CSOs/NGOs, development partners, political parties, trade unions, the media, and the citizenry. The new vision will mainstream the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the African Union  Agenda 2063 and other global initiatives such as the Paris Agreement.
